I have a class coming up!

The class is called, “Experimenting with Layering & Mixed Media” and it’s the technique I’ve been using for portraits for the last couple of years.

Class will take place on Thursday, February 9th (2023) from 4-6 pm at the Granite Area Arts Council building at 807 Prentice St in Granite Falls. Cost to attend is $25.

Register online or at 807 Prentice St. to join February’s exhibiting artist Krystl Louwagie in exploring what you can create when using semi-transparent durable paper to make layered artworks. Experiment with how an image changes when you are able to apply color to the backside and on the front side separately to create more depth. You can use one single sheet, or multiple to get a layered collage effect. These experiments can look like realistic portraits (as the works exhibited in her show) or lean more towards an abstract design (and anything in between)! Materials will be supplied to work with, but you may also want to bring your own images to work from or for inspiration-a 5×7 or 8×10 portrait or picture—you can even bring a laptop or tablet with images saved on them you want to use (the screens can be used as your own backlit lightbox to trace from when using translucent paper).

Side note: Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! Consider making your artwork a unique Valentine for someone special!

You can email Krystl with questions about the class at krystllouwagie@gmail.com
